Tuesday Tip – The Maine, J. Gary Nichols Cemetery Collection Tells Us that Four Year Old Franklin S Shackford Died in 1869 in Lewiston, Maine (Blog 385)

We wish to thank Belanger & Rafferty who collected information regarding cemetery records in Maine and for the folks who saved that information in the Maine, J. Gary Nichols Cemetery Collection, ca. 1780-1999.  These records list the gravesite of four year old Franklin S Shackford and the only information we have about him comes from this database and FindAGrave so without these records we’d know nothing about Franklin.

From the Maine, J. Gary Nichols Collection record we find that Franklin was the son of William A. and Elizabeth Shackford, as buried at the Riverside Cemetery in Lewiston, Maine and was 4 years, 6 months and 4 days old when he died.  We’ve written about his parents William Albert and Elizabeth Frances (Leighton) Shackford and know that they  moved to Utica, New York around 1913 when they were in their 80s probably to be with their son George Albert Shackford. It must have been heartbreaking when their young son Franklin died and difficult to leave the area near his gravesite.
